Retold dozens of times, the version of this folktale by Marcia Brown is the one I remember most from my childhood. Told with just three colors and loose drawings, it's the classic story of a village that comes together (hesitantly at first) to make a big pot of soup out of "stones". I often think of this story when I'm making soup for dinner out of just what I can find in my cupboards!
