The Surprise Party

The Surprise Party

Pat Hutchins 1991

Pat Hutchins' unique folk art illustrations accompany this story of "whisper down the lane".  Rabbit is throwing a surprise party, but as the news gets passed around, it changes in silly ways.  In the end, news of a party is a surprise indeed!

I think I like these illustrations so much because they remind me of my fox pillow!

Clocks and More Clocks

As someone who grew up in a house where none of the clocks had the right time, I find this book of Henry’s especially funny.

Clocks and More Clocks

Pat Hutchins 1970

Poor Mr. Higgins keeps running up and down stairs and buying more clocks trying to determine the accurate time. He gets a pocket watch in the end and that solves everything.  The illustrations are pure 70's!
