 These three books were a major score at the thrift store!  It all started with Iggy Peck, Architect, about a boy driven to build and design buildings.  He even makes a bridge that saves his class and wins his teacher over! From there Andrea Beaty imagines other classmates' stories including Rosie Revere who wants to be an engineer and has to learn the value in failing sometimes.  And finally Ada Twist who is alway asking the questions "why," while her parents learn to celebrate her endless curiosity.  The illustrations are what really set these books apart.  The patterns, the details, the mid century flair!

A nice oversized rhyming book about the world, nature, and community.  Marla Frazee's (one of the best!) inclusive illustrations are so enjoyable.  This is one of those books in our house that seems to float around from room to room and everyone that comes across it picks it up to look through and enjoy.

Helen Oxenbury illustrates a joyful celebration of babies.  Though diverse, they all have in common "ten little fingers and ten little toes" and are loved, loved, loved!

Neil Gaiman spins a silly yarn about a pirate babysitter who makes "Pirate Stew" for dinner.  Made of onions and carrots, cannonballs, wooden planks, mermaid tears and other ridiculous things, beware, it will turn you into a pirate if you eat it!  Soon the house is a pirate ship sailing through the sky and finding a donut shop to pillage.  The children charges are savvy and Gaiman's rhymes are fun to read aloud.

(We actually have a dish we call "Pirate Stew".  It's beef and potatoes and a little bit of everything made in the crock pot.)
