A Little Book of Prayers

I have a friend who owns a lovely little shop in Glenside called "The Nest".  She also does estate sales, one of which I went to last weekend.  Since she's also a fellow book lover, she always steers me to the best books.  Needless to say, I came home with some new (old) treasures!

Continuing to collect Maud and Miska Petersham, their blue illustrations are the highlight of this 1941 book of prayers for children.

The Golden Treasury of Prayers for Boys and Girls

The Golden Treasury of Prayers for Boys and Girls

Selected by Esther Wilkin

Illustrated by Eloise Wilkin 1975

A large oversized book of prayers spanning nationalities, religions and centuries.  Wilkin's illustrations are tender and sweet.  If you are building your children's library through the thrift store, these Golden Treasury books always seem to be there.

Once again Wilkin's bedroom interiors are impeccable!

The Lord's Prayer Heidi Holder

Another beautiful rendition of The Lord's Prayer with detailed symbolic illustrations by Heidi Holder.

The Lord's Prayer

A stunning version of the Lord's Prayer by Ingri and Edgar Parin D'Aulaire from 1934.  The pages and cover have beautiful gold accents that my photos just don't quite capture.

(Lovely end pages!)

Morning is a Little Child and A Little Book of Poems and Prayers

One of my best friends loves the art of Joan Walsh Anglund.  Her sweet-cheeked children's illustrations have graced greeting cards, books, plates, plaques, etc...

Morning is a Little Child 1969

A Little Book of Poems and Prayers 1989

Joan Walsh Anglund

These two books are from our collection.

Morning is a Little Child features Anglund's original poems paired with her soft colored pictures.  I particularly like the Halloween one.

A Little Book of Poems and Prayers contains poetry and scripture and prayers short and sweet enough to read a little every day.

(I always love children pictured from around the world.)
