What a moon we had last night! The Hunter moon, large and luminous. What a good time to pull this one from our shelf....
Eve Bunting's poems highlight the Sioux tradition of telling time through the seasons' moons. Counted in notches on a Moonstick, each moon is a marker for the foods that were eaten and the activities that were undertaken at that time of year. Even though years have changed the way that modern Sioux live, some traditions are timeless.
