I uncovered this unique book at the thrift store. It was popular to tell stories or teach children through books that had photographs. They seem very dated to me now, but I love the old photos!
Whobody There?
Charles and Ann Morse 1971
This book was a way of explaining relationships and having friends in the terminologies of "anybodies" and "who bodies".
TI am so curious how the height of the shade makes it clear to the narrator (a child I assume) that the mother isn't that fond of Sarah. Maybe there was more on a page you didn't photograph. The description of the sorts of cleaning the mother does in preparation for a visit (and then the photo with the mother holding a cup and saucer) are so of another era. That book is a sort of time capsule.
ReplyDeleteThat's a funny observation! I think fixing the shades was just a way of making sure they were all even and left the room partly shaded and more formal? The book is definitely a time capsule, especially with some of the etiquette reserved for acquaintances that we just don't follow nowadays.
