This World of Ours

 I got to hold my sister's brand new baby and go to an antique mart with my mom (where I found this book!).  If that isn't a great weekend, I don't know what is!

I thought this would be more of a story book or musings about nature, but it's in fact a kind of science book teaching about weather and how soil is made and mountains and the air around us.  It's a thicker Little Golden Book with more pages, but all the better because that means more illustrations by Eloise Wilkin!

The New Baby

 We too have a new baby in our family!  (Not mine, but my sister's, and we are all loving on her!).   I recently found this Eloise Wilkin Golden Book to add to our collection.  Written in the days when mom went off to the hospital and grandma came to stay (in this case it's "Aunt Pat"), it's fun to see all the outdated supplies needed for the baby.  While Wilkin's pictures are always so charming, there's some comical caricatures amongst the adults in this story!  And interestingly, not a single picture of a pregnant looking mom!

A large oversized book of prayers spanning nationalities, religions and centuries.  Wilkin's illustrations are tender and sweet.  If you are building your children's library through the thrift store, these Golden Treasury books always seem to be there. 

Once again Wilkin's bedroom interiors are impeccable!

My Goodmorning Book

 One of Charlotte's favorite childhood books is My Goodnight Book by Eloise Wilkin.  I was surprised to find the "Good Morning" version at a flea market the other day.  I had no idea there was a companion!  This one follows a little boy as his wakes up and starts his day.  Like My Goodnight Book, Wilkin's pictures are so enjoyable and her interiors are always so charming.
